Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Police has formally issued a notice to IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, wife of the late IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar, requesting the handover of her husband’s laptop. The device is considered a critical piece of evidence in the ongoing investigation into Puran Kumar’s death.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the case stated that the laptop may contain crucial information, including the original draft of the alleged suicide note reportedly authored by the officer. The police plan to send the laptop to the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for digital examination to verify whether the note was indeed created by Puran Kumar.

Sources indicated that the laptop reportedly holds a saved draft of the note, believed to have been sent via email before his death. Investigators are examining who received the email, the exact time it was sent, and when each recipient accessed it. As of now, IAS Amneet Kumar has not handed over the laptop to the authorities.

Meanwhile, Haryana Director-General of Police (DGP) Shatrujeet Kapur has been placed on leave amid the investigation. Puran Kumar allegedly shot himself at his residence in Chandigarh on October 7. In the final note he left, he accused eight senior officers, including DGP Kapur, of “blatant caste-based discrimination, targeted mental harassment, public humiliation, and atrocities.”

In response, the Haryana Government issued a statewide circular urging strict vigilance to maintain communal harmony and law and order. The directive calls for close coordination between officers, local organizations, and community leaders, continuous monitoring of public sentiment, and immediate action on any developments that may disturb peace. Timely reports on such developments are to be submitted for review.
