Amritsar: In a major breakthrough against narcotics smuggling, Punjab Police’s Counter Intelligence (CI) Amritsar has arrested two operatives linked to a Pakistan-based smuggler and recovered 4 kg of heroin from their possession, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav said on Sunday.
The arrested accused have been identified as Akashdeep Singh alias Tony of Attari, Amritsar, and Pawanbir Singh of Basarke Bhaini, Amritsar. Along with the narcotics, police also seized a Hero Splendor motorcycle used for transporting consignments.
DGP Yadav revealed that both operatives were working under the instructions of Pakistan-based smuggler Rana King, who has been using drones to drop heroin consignments across the border.
Sharing details, the DGP said CI Amritsar received a tip-off about the delivery of a large consignment. Acting swiftly, a police team laid a trap and intercepted the suspects on the Chheharta-Sann Sahib Road near Mannu Hospital in Amritsar, where they were attempting to deliver the drugs to another party.
Further investigations are underway to identify the module’s forward and backward linkages, with more arrests and recoveries expected, he added.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 53 dated 28-09-2025 at Police Station State Special Operation Cell (SSOC), Amritsar, under sections 21, 25, and 29 of the NDPS Act.
