Punjab-Chandigarh Weather Update: Dry Conditions to Continue, Pollution May Worsen as Winds Slow

Chandigarh: Punjab and Chandigarh are likely to experience another spell of dry and largely clear weather over the next two days, but concerns over rising pollution levels remain as wind speeds may weaken following Diwali celebrations.

According to the Meteorological Department, no rainfall is expected across the region on November 8. Light to moderate fog may develop in isolated areas during early morning and night hours, potentially reducing visibility for commuters.

Weather conditions could change around November 11 and 12 with the arrival of a fresh Western Disturbance over the hilly regions from November 10. Its impact may bring light showers to parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh. Himachal Pradesh is also likely to receive rainfall, while higher elevations could witness snowfall. No warning for heavy rain or thunderstorms has been issued for Punjab and Chandigarh so far.

Pollution remains a concern after Diwali

North-westerly winds are currently helping disperse pollutants from the atmosphere. However, a reduction in wind speed could slow down this process and lead to a deterioration in air quality. Smoke released by Diwali firecrackers may further add to the pollution burden, particularly if atmospheric conditions remain stagnant.

Children, senior citizens and people suffering from respiratory problems have been advised to take precautions. They should limit outdoor activities during periods of poor air quality and consider wearing masks when going outside.

Bathinda records highest temperature

Meanwhile, temperatures across the region continue to remain above seasonal averages. Data recorded on November 7 showed Bathinda as the hottest location in Punjab, with the maximum temperature touching 32.8°C.

Chandigarh registered a high of 31.1°C, around 2.8°C above the normal level for this time of the year. Ludhiana recorded 30.6°C, while the maximum temperature in Patiala stood at 31°C.

With dry conditions expected to persist in the immediate future, residents may experience clear days alongside cooler, fog-prone mornings and nights.
