Amritsar:A gangster wanted in multiple criminal cases was injured and arrested following an exchange of fire with police near a canal in Mattewal village area of Amritsar on Wednesday.
According to the police, the accused sustained a gunshot injury to his leg during the encounter. After being apprehended, he was taken to a hospital for treatment. Police said the accused had fired around four to five rounds during the exchange.
The operation was led by Mattewal police station SHO Sub-Inspector Daljit Singh.
Gangster Identified As Harman Singh
Police identified the accused as Harman Singh, son of Harjinder Singh and a resident of Boparai village. He was allegedly wanted in several criminal cases, including a shooting incident involving a person in Boparai village.
Investigators are now examining his alleged involvement in other cases and are probing his criminal activities.
Senior Police Officers Reach Encounter Spot
Following information about the encounter, Amritsar Rural SSP Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal reached the spot along with other senior officers.
Those present included SPD Ramandeep Singh, DSP (D) Gurinderpal Singh Nagra, CIA Staff in-charge Ajaypal Singh and Mattewal SHO Daljit Singh.
A forensic team also visited the location after the incident and began collecting evidence. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the exchange of fire and the weapon allegedly recovered from the accused.
Harman Singh remains under treatment at a hospital, while police are carrying out further legal proceedings and investigating the case.
