Jalandhar: An alleged member of the Doni Bal gang was injured in a police encounter near the dairy complex in Jamsherpur, with officials saying the incident took place during an ongoing crackdown on drugs and criminal activities.
The injured suspect has been identified as Sukhjinder alias Prince, a resident of Tarn Taran. Police said he had allegedly been preparing to carry out a criminal act and was traced with the help of footage from government-installed surveillance cameras.
According to the police, after questioning Sukhjinder, a team took him to the dairy complex in Jamsherpur to recover a weapon. During the recovery operation, the accused allegedly attempted to flee and opened fire at the police personnel.
The police responded with retaliatory fire, during which Sukhjinder sustained a bullet injury to his leg. He was subsequently taken to the Civil Hospital for medical treatment.
A pistol was recovered from the suspect, while police also found a spent cartridge at the scene. Investigators said their preliminary findings indicate that Sukhjinder is allegedly associated with the Doni Bal gang.
A police officer said a total of three rounds were fired during the encounter. Further investigation is underway to establish the suspect’s alleged involvement in other criminal activities and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
