New Delhi: Delhi Police have launched an investigation after para-athlete Neeraj Yadav was found lying beside his car near Maujpur Metro Station and was later declared dead at a hospital. The incident was reported late on October 27, with police receiving information from GTB Hospital shortly after midnight on October 28.

According to a statement issued by Delhi Police, information was received at Jafrabad police station at around 12:08 am regarding a man who had been brought to the hospital’s emergency department and declared dead on arrival.

Sub-Inspector Vishal Tyagi, accompanied by other police personnel, reached the hospital premises, where the deceased’s body had been shifted to the mortuary.

Woman’s Statement Forms Part of Police Enquiry

During the initial enquiry, a woman who had taken Yadav to the hospital told police that she had been acquainted with him since December 2025.

According to her statement, she travelled to Sonipat on October 27 to meet Yadav and tell him that she could no longer remain in contact with him. She said Yadav subsequently dropped her off at Maujpur in Delhi in his Scorpio-N vehicle.

The woman further told investigators that she became suspicious at around 9 pm and went towards Gate No. 1 of Maujpur Metro Station. There, she allegedly found Yadav lying on the road beside his car.

She took him to the hospital for medical assistance, but doctors declared him dead on arrival, according to the police account.

The circumstances surrounding his death have not yet been established, and the woman’s account forms part of the ongoing investigation.

Athlete Ran Sports Academy in Haryana

Police said Yadav was a para-athlete who operated an online sports academy in Sonipat, Haryana, under the name Anshneer Sports Academy.

His death has drawn attention to the circumstances in which the athlete was found in Delhi, although investigators have not announced a definitive cause of death.

According to the police statement, Yadav was married and is survived by his wife and their three-year-old daughter.

Investigation Under BNSS Provisions

Jafrabad police station has initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), which deals with police inquiries into certain deaths.

Further investigation is under way to establish the sequence of events leading to Yadav’s death. Police have not announced any final findings, and the circumstances remain subject to investigation.
