Shimla: A moderate earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale rattled Himachal Pradesh at dawn on Wednesday, sending noticeable tremors across Shimla and several neighbouring areas. Data from the National Centre for Seismology indicates that the quake struck at approximately 5:46 AM at a focal depth of roughly 10 kilometres, with the epicentre located within the Shimla district.
The unexpected vibrations jolted sleeping residents awake in the early morning hours, leading many to quickly evacuate residential buildings into open grounds as a precaution. A separate minor seismic event registering a magnitude of 2.5 was also detected in the Chamba region shortly before the main shock. Local authorities and disaster response teams surveyed the affected districts and confirmed that no structural losses, injuries, or casualties have been recorded.
Given its placement within active seismic zones IV and V, the Himalayan state experiences routine tectonic movement. Administrative officials have maintained communication with regional emergency networks while reassuring the public that the overall situation remains completely under control.
