First Delhi, Then Bombay High Court: Twin Bomb Threats in a Single Day

Mumbai: Proceedings at the Bombay High Court were suspended on Friday afternoon after an e-mail threatened to blow up the iconic building in south Mumbai.

Officials said the threat mail was received around 1 pm on the court’s official account. As a precaution, the administration ordered the evacuation of the premises around 12.45 pm, ensuring lawyers, litigants, and staff left the building quickly. Bar associations also issued alerts to their members.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Pravin Munde, along with officers from Azad Maidan police station, the South region, and the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS), reached the spot to conduct searches. “Teams are following the set Standard Operating Procedure. In recent months, we have received similar e-mails targeting important places, and they all turned out to be hoaxes. This one also seems to be the same, but all safety protocols are being followed,” a senior officer said.

Meanwhile, in a similar incident earlier in the day, the Delhi High Court was evacuated after its staff received a threatening e-mail mentioning political statements and warning of an explosion. Bomb squads and police teams rushed to the spot, cleared the premises, and conducted detailed inspections.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) Devesh Kumar Mahla later confirmed that nothing suspicious was found and the threat appeared to be a hoax. “As per the SOP, bomb detection teams and the dog squad carried out thorough checks inside the court. So far, nothing suspicious has been recovered,” he said.

Both incidents caused temporary panic but authorities maintained that full precautionary measures were taken to ensure safety.
