Pathankot – In a major crackdown on illicit liquor trade, the Excise Department along with the police seized 82 cases of illegal liquor and arrested one person during a naka operation in Bhua constituency’s Bani Lodhi village.

Officials said the joint operation was part of the ongoing campaign to curb the sale and distribution of illegal liquor in the district. Acting on a tip-off, the excise team, led by officer Narinder Kaur Walia, set up a checkpoint at Bani Lodhi with police support.

During the naka, a vehicle was intercepted and searched, leading to the recovery of 82 cases of both country-made and English liquor. The team also seized a drum of lahan (raw liquor used for brewing). The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody on the spot.

Excise officer Walia confirmed that the accused is being questioned and further investigation is underway. Police said all seized liquor has been taken into possession and a case has been registered.
