Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is set for another spell of monsoon activity, with the Meteorological Department forecasting rain across the state through August 13. While several areas are expected to receive light to moderate showers, some parts could witness heavier spells, particularly over the next few days.
The weather office has forecast increased rainfall activity from August 9, with heavy showers possible at several locations. Similar conditions may continue on August 10, while scattered rainfall is expected in different parts of the state on August 11 and 12. Some areas could also receive rain on August 13.
Landslide threat amid continued rainfall
The prolonged wet spell has raised concerns in the state’s hilly regions, where heavy rain can trigger landslides and cause loose soil, rocks and debris to spill onto roads. Water levels in rivers, rivulets and seasonal streams may also rise rapidly during intense showers.
Residents and visitors have consequently been advised to maintain a safe distance from water bodies and avoid venturing close to riverbanks, streams and vulnerable slopes.
Drivers urged to check road conditions
The fresh spell of rain could affect road connectivity, particularly along routes passing through mountainous terrain. Areas that have already experienced weather-related damage could face additional problems if rainfall intensifies.
Authorities have urged motorists to drive cautiously, especially on stretches prone to landslides and falling debris. Travellers have also been advised to check the latest road and weather conditions before beginning journeys and avoid non-essential travel during periods of heavy rainfall.
Administration keeps watch
With the possibility of landslides, waterlogging and sudden rises in water levels, local authorities and concerned departments have been asked to remain vigilant.
Residents have been advised to follow official weather updates and instructions issued by district administrations. People living in vulnerable locations have also been urged to take necessary precautions and move to safer areas if authorities issue an evacuation or emergency advisory.
