Dubai: An Indian expatriate hailing from Kerala’s Kollam district tragically lost his life following a gas cylinder explosion at a car showroom along Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai. The victim, identified as 27-year-old Shijin Paul, served as the social media manager and videographer at the showroom. He succumbed to his injuries in the hospital shortly after the blast, which also left five other individuals injured, according to official reports from the Dubai Media Office and local authorities.
The Indian Consulate in Dubai confirmed Paul’s passing on Tuesday, stating that officials are actively liaising with his family members in Kerala and local municipal authorities in the United Arab Emirates to expedite the repatriation of his mortal remains. According to eyewitness accounts from colleagues, employees noticed a localized fire inside the premises and attempted to control the flames using fire extinguishers before the gas cylinder suddenly detonated. The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding workplace safety standards and industrial hazards for Indian expatriate workers operating across Gulf Cooperation Council countries.
