Dehradun: Continuous rainfall triggered by an active weather system has led to a sharp rise in the water level of the Tamsa River flowing through the revered Tapkeshwar Mahadev Temple in Dehradun. The swelling river, following overnight showers, has inundated parts of the temple complex, prompting authorities to remain on high alert.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) had earlier issued a warning for heavy rainfall across several parts of Uttarakhand. Acting on the forecast, local officials have been monitoring vulnerable locations as persistent rain continues to affect normal life in the region.
Visuals from the temple showed the river flowing with considerable force through the shrine area, while devotees and visitors were advised to exercise caution. Although no casualties or major damage have been reported so far, the sudden rise in the river has raised safety concerns.
The district administration has urged residents and pilgrims to avoid venturing near riverbanks, streams, and other low-lying areas until weather conditions improve. Disaster response teams remain prepared to respond if the situation worsens.
Weather officials have indicated that rainfall is likely to continue over the next few days, with authorities closely tracking water levels in rivers and seasonal drains. People have been advised to follow official advisories and avoid unnecessary travel in flood-prone areas.
