Siliguri: A complaint has been submitted seeking the registration of a Zero FIR against organisers of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) over the alleged involvement of a minor during the NEET paper leak protest held at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on July 20.
Advocate Rinki Chatterjee Singh said the complaint names Saurav Das, Abhijeet Dipke and other organisers, urging police to invoke provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
According to the advocate, the complaint stems from events during the protest, where police allegedly resorted to a lathi-charge and controversial remarks were made against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. She referred to the Prime Minister’s subsequent social media statement in which he said he had forgiven the youngsters involved and did not want legal action taken against them, keeping their future in mind.
The advocate alleged that despite this, CJP organisers later released a video accusing the police of using force against 12-year-old girls during the protest and demanding an apology from the Prime Minister. Questioning the presence of minors at the demonstration, she argued that children should not have been brought to a protest of this nature.
She has demanded that investigators examine whether the organisers violated provisions relating to the protection of children and sought action under Sections 13, 14 and 15 of the POCSO Act, as well as Section 153 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. She also called for an investigation into the funding of the protest, alleging that the event was backed by anti-national elements and individuals attempting to destabilise the government.
Authorities have not yet issued an official response regarding the complaint, and it remains to be seen whether a Zero FIR will be registered based on the allegations. The claims made in the complaint have not been independently verified.
