Rudraprayag: Persistent heavy rainfall has disrupted normal life in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district, with rivers, seasonal streams and drainage channels witnessing a sharp rise in water levels. The situation has prompted the district administration to step up monitoring and issue fresh advisories for residents living in vulnerable areas.
Officials said the Punan Gadhera, which flows near the district headquarters, swelled significantly following continuous rain, sparking concern among people residing along its banks. The rapid increase in the water level kept many residents on edge overnight amid fears of possible flooding.
As a precautionary measure, the district administration and the municipal authorities have intensified surveillance in flood-prone locations. Teams have been deployed to monitor the situation and respond quickly in case of any emergency.
Authorities are also using public announcement systems and loudspeakers to alert residents about the prevailing weather conditions. People have been advised to avoid venturing near rivers, streams and overflowing drains, while those living in low-lying or vulnerable areas have been asked to shift to safer locations if the situation worsens.
The administration has appealed to the public to remain calm, avoid spreading or believing rumours, and rely only on verified information issued through official channels. Residents have also been urged to cooperate with emergency teams and strictly follow safety instructions.
