New Delhi/New York: The Indian Embassy in the United States strongly criticized The New York Times for using a misleading headline that referred to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir as “Pakistani Kashmir”. Responding to the report, diplomatic officials explicitly asserted that there is no entity known as “Pakistani Kashmir,” reaffirming that the entire region of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh remains an integral and inalienable part of India that continues to suffer under unlawful Pakistani occupation.
The rebuke followed media coverage of violent clashes and regional election dynamics unfolding in the occupied region. Reports indicated that severe civil unrest erupted in Mirpur and surrounding areas as local security forces confronted members of the Joint Awami Action Committee, a civil rights coalition protesting administrative excesses, electoral manipulation, and economic exploitation by Pakistani authorities. Emphasizing India’s official stance, the embassy noted that the persistent public outrage and violence in the region stem directly from systemic oppression and the denial of fundamental human rights under the illegal occupation regime.
