Jalandhar (Punjab): To strengthen law and order, Jalandhar Police Commissioner Dhanpreet Kaur has directed that all restaurants, clubs, and licensed food and beverage outlets within the Commissionerate’s jurisdiction must close by midnight.
The order, issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, specifies that no fresh orders for food or drinks will be accepted after 11:30 PM, and no new customers will be permitted entry into establishments beyond that time.
Ahatas adjoining liquor shops are also required to shut down by 12 midnight, or earlier if stipulated by licensing conditions.
The directive places strict emphasis on noise control, capping permissible levels at 10 dB(A). Musical activities such as DJs, live bands, and orchestras must end by 10 PM, after which no sound from inside any venue should be audible beyond its boundary walls.
The order further extends to vehicles, mandating that music systems must not produce noise audible outside the vehicle at any hour of the day.
The regulation will remain effective until November 7, 2025, and violators may face strict legal action.
