Delhi: A massive search operation is underway in Delhi’s Outer North district after four minor boys were swept away by the strong currents of the Yamuna River while bathing near Spur (Thokar) No. 24 in Hiranki village under the Alipur police station limits.
According to officials, a group of five children had gone to the river when four of them were caught in the fast-flowing current. The fifth child immediately raised an alarm, prompting local residents and authorities to launch a rescue operation. However, the boys disappeared in the river before help could reach them.
Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Delhi Fire Service and Delhi Police have been carrying out an extensive search in the area. The operation continued into its second day, with rescue personnel scanning the river despite challenging conditions.
Family members gathered at the riverbank as rescue teams searched for the missing children. One grieving mother said she was informed by her family while she was at work that her 15-year-old son had drowned. Another parent, whose son Saurabh is among the missing, said the four boys who were swept away were classmates who had gone to the river together.
Officials said the search operation involves multiple agencies working in coordination to locate the missing children. Rescue teams are using boats and specialised equipment to comb the affected stretch of the river.
Authorities have urged people to stay away from dangerous sections of the Yamuna, especially during periods of strong currents, as investigations into the incident continue. The operation is expected to remain underway until all the missing children are traced.
