Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is likely to witness another spell of intense monsoon activity as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted widespread rainfall across the state. The weather office has cautioned that several districts could experience heavy to very heavy showers, prompting authorities to issue advisories for residents and tourists.
According to meteorologists, the active southwest monsoon is expected to influence weather conditions throughout the week, with intermittent rainfall forecast to continue over both hill and valley regions.
Rainfall Continues Across Multiple Districts
Several parts of Himachal recorded light to moderate rainfall over the past 24 hours, bringing down daytime temperatures and providing relief from warm weather. While showers varied in intensity, officials said the rainfall pattern indicates that the monsoon has strengthened considerably across the state.
Weather experts believe precipitation could become more widespread over the next few days as favourable atmospheric conditions persist.
Possibility of Landslides and Flash Floods
The Meteorological Department has warned that prolonged rainfall may trigger landslides in vulnerable hill slopes and cause sudden rises in the water levels of rivers and seasonal streams. Low-lying areas may also experience waterlogging, while falling trees and loose rocks could disrupt road connectivity.
Authorities have advised district administrations to remain prepared for weather-related emergencies and monitor sensitive locations closely.
Travel Advisory Issued
Residents and tourists have been urged to avoid travelling through landslide-prone stretches unless absolutely necessary. Officials have also advised people to stay away from rivers, nullahs and other water bodies where water levels can increase rapidly during heavy rainfall.
