Surrey: Canadian authorities have arrested two men of Punjabi origin in connection with a firearm incident that targeted a residence in Surrey, British Columbia, as investigators continue probing suspected links to organised criminal activity.
The Surrey Police Service (SPS) announced that 21-year-old Arman Singh and 22-year-old Simarjeet Singh have each been charged with reckless discharge of a firearm under Canada’s Criminal Code. Both accused remain in judicial custody and are scheduled to appear before the court on June 29.
The investigation began after police received reports of gunfire near a house in the vicinity of 96 Avenue and 133A Street during the early hours of June 11. Responding officers found evidence that bullets had struck the exterior of the property. No occupants of the home suffered injuries during the incident.
Following the initial response, the case was transferred to the Surrey Police Service’s Extortion Response Team, which worked alongside Project Assurance and frontline officers to identify those allegedly involved.
Investigators later obtained search warrants for two properties believed to be connected to the suspects. On June 12, coordinated raids were carried out with assistance from the Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team, the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and other specialised police units.
Four individuals were taken into custody during the operation. While charges have been filed against Arman Singh and Simarjeet Singh, the remaining two detainees have not been charged in the criminal investigation. However, they continue to remain in the custody of the Canada Border Services Agency.
Police confirmed that the accused are foreign nationals and said immigration authorities are actively involved in the case. Officials have not disclosed additional details regarding their immigration status.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the Surrey Police Service has released photographs of the two charged individuals, stating that the move is intended to encourage potential witnesses and victims to come forward with information.
Authorities believe the case may have broader links to violent extortion-related activities currently under investigation in the region. Detectives are continuing to examine possible connections and have appealed to members of the public to assist by sharing any relevant information that could help identify additional individuals involved.
Police emphasised that the investigation remains active, with further arrests or charges possible as evidence continues to be reviewed.
