Srinagar: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh reviewed the flood situation in Jammu and Kashmir, sharing a detailed status report on relief and rescue operations across the region.

According to the minister, intermittent rain continues across much of the Jammu division, sparing only Poonch and Rajouri districts. While the River Tawi has shown a visible decline in water levels, the Chenab remains swollen and dangerously close to breaching the danger mark.

Authorities have identified the restoration of basic amenities, including electricity, drinking water, and mobile services, as the foremost task. Repair teams have been working without pause since Monday night to restore normalcy.

Dr. Singh stated that multiple agencies, including SDRF, NDRF, the armed forces, and paramilitary units, are jointly coordinating with civil authorities to ensure a rapid response in flood-hit areas. As a precaution, all schools and colleges across the division remain closed, while residents have been advised to stay indoors unless movement is necessary.

The Madhopur Bridge, carrying historical importance as the site of Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee’s arrest in 1953, has been closed for traffic since early morning due to safety concerns triggered by heavy water flow.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is closely tracking developments, with regular briefings being provided to him. District administrations have also circulated helpline numbers to provide quick assistance to citizens in need.
