Kapurthala: Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal on Tuesday assured residents that the embankments of the Beas river are fully secure despite the rising water level in Sultanpur Lodhi and Bholath subdivisions.

During his inspection of the Dhussi and Advanced embankments at Kamewal and Baghuwal, Panchal reviewed the protective measures being carried out by the Drainage Department. He said that strict patrolling is being maintained to safeguard the structures and prevent any breach.

Executive Engineer Sartaj Singh Randhawa, who accompanied the Deputy Commissioner, said vulnerable stretches are being reinforced as a precaution. He added that sand-filled bags are being placed near Peerewal and Kishansingh Wala to strengthen the embankments, while crates packed with soil are being used to prevent erosion. A temporary advanced embankment at Chak Patti Baloo Bahadur village is also being fortified.

Sub-Divisional Officer Vijay Kumar confirmed there is no immediate threat and stressed that continuous monitoring and preventive steps are in place to ensure safety.

Panchal reiterated that the administration remains fully alert and committed to protecting the affected areas from any potential flooding risks due to the river’s rising levels.
