CHANDIGARH: Haryana has significantly strengthened its nutrition mission for 2026–27 under POSHAN Abhiyaan, with enhanced financial backing and expanded coverage aimed at near-elimination of severe malnutrition. The ₹170 crore Mukhyamantri Dudh Uphaar Yojana will further support these efforts by ensuring daily nutritional supplementation to lakhs of beneficiaries. Chairing the 7th State Convergence Committee meeting, Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi emphasized stronger interdepartmental coordination, data-driven monitoring, and effective last-mile delivery to improve maternal and child health outcomes.

The state’s roadmap focuses on achieving 99% growth monitoring coverage, reducing severe malnutrition to negligible levels, and strengthening supplementary nutrition services. Key interventions include promotion of exclusive breastfeeding, improved complementary feeding practices, and targeted management of acute malnutrition. To tackle anaemia, the government will intensify iron and folic acid supplementation among children, adolescent girls, and women, while also prioritizing universal diarrhoea management through ORS and zinc, along with expanded immunization, deworming, and Vitamin A coverage.

At the grassroots level, convergence among ICDS, health systems, self-help groups, and Panchayati Raj Institutions will be strengthened to improve outreach and community participation. Initiatives such as Poshan Vatikas, promotion of iron-rich diets, and monthly Yoga sessions at Anganwadi Centres will be scaled up. In 2025–26, nearly 9.92 lakh beneficiaries were screened and growth monitoring exceeded 99%, reflecting steady progress. Currently, around 9.46 lakh children and 2.56 lakh pregnant and lactating women receive daily nutritional support, with digital monitoring tools ensuring transparency as Haryana advances towards becoming a leading state in combating malnutrition.
