Ohio: A 33-year-old Indian national, Tarsem Singh, has been formally indicted on multiple felony charges following a high-speed police chase that resulted in the death of a pregnant teenager in Darke County, Ohio. A grand jury returned the indictment on March 23, 2026, charging Singh with two counts each of involuntary manslaughter, reckless homicide, and aggravated vehicular homicide, along with counts of vehicular assault and failure to comply with a police order. Singh, who appeared via video link for his arraignment, has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
The fatal incident occurred on the evening of February 16, 2026, when a Darke County sheriff’s deputy attempted to stop Singh’s 2022 Land Rover Range Rover Velar for travelling 79 mph in a 55 mph zone. Rather than pulling over, Singh allegedly accelerated, reaching speeds of 124 mph during a five-mile pursuit. The chase ended tragically when Singh’s vehicle crossed the centre line on a curve and struck an oncoming 2016 Jeep Cherokee head-on. The force of the collision caused the Land Rover to overturn, ejecting 17-year-old passenger Ashlee Holmes, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Holmes was pregnant at the time, and family members later confirmed that Singh was the father of her unborn child.
The case has drawn significant attention due to Singh’s immigration status. US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued a statement on social media identifying Singh as a “criminal illegal alien” and confirmed that an immigration detainer has been placed on him. While Singh was treated for non-life-threatening injuries at Miami Valley Hospital before being jailed, the driver of the Jeep Cherokee also sustained injuries but survived. Judge Travis Fliehman has set Singh’s bond at $1 million, and his next court appearance is scheduled for April 3, 2026. If convicted, Singh faces substantial prison time followed by likely deportation
