New York: Flight operations at LaGuardia Airport were temporarily halted on Monday evening after a regional passenger jet operated under the Air Canada Express banner came into contact with a ground vehicle shortly after landing.
According to aviation data provider Flightradar24, the aircraft—identified as a CRJ-900 arriving from Montreal—was moving at approximately 24 miles per hour (around 39 km/h) when the incident occurred. The flight was being operated by Jazz Aviation, a partner carrier for Air Canada.
Following the collision, the Federal Aviation Administration issued an immediate ground stop, suspending all incoming and outgoing flights at the busy New York airport. Initial advisories indicated the halt would remain in place until at least 0530 GMT, with officials warning that the disruption could be extended due to the nature of the emergency.
Airport authorities began diverting inbound flights to alternate airports, while some aircraft were instructed to return to their departure points. A separate notice to pilots suggested that restrictions at the airport could remain in effect for several hours.
Emergency crews, including personnel from the New York City Fire Department, responded to the scene after reports of a collision involving an aircraft and a runway vehicle. Officials, however, did not immediately release information about injuries or the extent of the damage.
Images circulating online appeared to show visible damage to the front section of the aircraft, though these visuals have not yet been independently verified.
Neither Air Canada nor federal aviation authorities issued an immediate statement, and the cause of the incident remains under investigation.
