Amritsar: Police in Amritsar have uncovered a cross-border arms and narcotics smuggling racket, arresting six individuals and seizing illegal weapons and a significant quantity of heroin in what officials described as a breakthrough against organised crime in the region.

According to the Punjab Police, the operation was carried out by the Amritsar Commissionerate Police following intelligence inputs about a network allegedly involved in transporting arms and drugs across the international border.

During the crackdown, officers recovered six sophisticated pistols, including rare PX 5.7×28 mm TISAS Turkey series weapons, along with 60 live cartridges. Police also seized 3.513 kilograms of heroin believed to be part of a consignment intended for distribution in the region.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects had links with handlers based in Pakistan, who were reportedly coordinating the supply of narcotics and weapons near the Indo-Pak Border. Officials believe the arrested men were working under instructions from a cross-border operator, pointing to the presence of a larger smuggling network.

Police have registered separate cases at multiple stations, including Gate Hakima, Chheharta and Verka police stations in Amritsar, as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities said efforts are underway to identify additional members involved in the operation and to trace both the forward distribution channels and the sources supplying the contraband.

The police reiterated their commitment to cracking down on drug trafficking and illegal arms circulation, stating that strict action will continue against networks involved in cross-border smuggling and organised crime.
