New Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday said the attack on her during a ‘Jan Sunwai’ programme was a “cowardly attempt” on her commitment to serve people, but insisted that it has not shaken her resolve.
In her first reaction after the incident at her Civil Lines camp office, Gupta said public hearings would continue without disruption. “The attack on me during this morning’s public hearing was not just an attack on me, but a cowardly attempt on our resolve to serve Delhi and work for the welfare of the people,” she wrote in Hindi on X.
The chief minister said she was “in shock” after the assault but assured citizens she was recovering well. “Such attacks can never break my spirit or my resolve to serve the people. Now, I will be among you with even more energy and dedication than before,” she added.
Gupta urged her supporters not to trouble themselves by visiting her in person, promising she would return to work soon. “Public hearings and the resolution of people’s problems will continue with the same seriousness and commitment as before. Your trust and support are my greatest strength,” she said, expressing gratitude for the love and good wishes pouring in.
Police identified the accused as 41-year-old Sakriya Rajeshbhai Khimjibhai, a resident of Rajkot, Gujarat. He was detained soon after the attack and is being jointly interrogated by the Intelligence Bureau and Delhi Police’s Special Cell, a senior officer said.
