New Delhi: Family members of Delhi Police personnel who were injured during the recent protest at Jantar Mantar addressed the media, sharing their experiences and raising concerns over the violence that unfolded during the demonstration.

Speaking at the press conference, the daughter of a Delhi Police sub-inspector described the events that led to her father’s injuries. According to her, the officer had been assigned to frontline security duties near the barricades at the main protest venue, where a large crowd had gathered.

She said her father had repeatedly expressed concern that the nature of the gathering had changed over time. In his conversations with the family, he reportedly claimed that the protest no longer appeared to be driven solely by students and believed that disruptive individuals had become part of the crowd.

Recalling the incident on July 25, she alleged that her father was attacked by a group of protesters, dragged through the crowd, and suffered severe injuries during the confrontation near the protest stage. She said the assault left him unconscious, and he was admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital, where he remained under medical observation for several hours.

Later that evening, fellow police personnel escorted the injured officer back home, she said. According to the family, his uniform was heavily stained with blood, highlighting the extent of the injuries he had sustained during the incident.

The family urged authorities to ensure accountability for those responsible for the violence and emphasized the risks faced by police personnel deployed to maintain law and order during large public demonstrations.

Officials have not yet issued a detailed response to the family’s allegations. The incident remains part of the broader investigation into the violence reported during the Jantar Mantar protest.
