PTI Moves Supreme Court for Imran Khan’s Medical Transfer Amid Eye Health Concerns

Islamabad (Pakistan): The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) has officially approached the Supreme Court of Pakistan seeking the immediate transfer of its incarcerated founder, Imran Khan, to a private hospital. In an application filed on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, legal counsel Sardar Latif Khosa requested that the 73-year-old former Prime Minister be shifted to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad for specialized treatment of a serious eye condition.

The legal petition highlights grave concerns regarding a diagnosis of right central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), which was first reported in late January. Recent medical assessments have reportedly measured Khan’s vision in his right eye at 6/24 partial without aid, a significant decline that the defense argues requires a retina specialist not available at the state-run facilities currently being used. The PTI is demanding that Khan’s personal physicians, Dr. Faisal Sultan and Dr. Aasim Yusuf, be involved in all medical procedures to ensure transparency.

Serious apprehensions were raised in the filing regarding a medical examination conducted on February 24 at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims). The legal team described the “secrecy” surrounding this visit as “mindboggling,” alleging that family members and independent doctors were excluded despite government claims to the contrary. The petition further asserts that Khan’s sisters were denied access during the hospital visit, leading to “unavoidable doubts” about the accuracy of state-issued reports claiming he is “clinically stable”.

Beyond medical access, the application seeks a court order to ensure that Khan’s legal team is granted reasonable access to their client to receive updated instructions for his ongoing representation. The party maintains that the health of the former premier is a matter of national concern and that his advancing age makes the lack of transparent medical information unacceptable.
