New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Tuesday approved the construction of a greenfield airport at Kota-Bundi in Rajasthan with an estimated cost of Rs 1,507 crore.

Addressing the media after the Cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the project will be funded by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) through its internal resources. The Rajasthan government will provide 1,089 acres of land free of cost for the development.

The upcoming airport will have the capacity to handle two million passengers annually and is expected to be completed within 24 months. Vaishnaw said the new facility will significantly boost regional air connectivity, encourage tourism, and strengthen the local economy.

Highlighting India’s rapid growth in aviation, the minister noted that the number of operational airports has increased from 74 in 2014 to 162 in 2025. Similarly, annual air passenger traffic has surged from 16.8 crore in 2014 to 41.2 crore this year.
