Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is likely to experience a spell of mostly dry weather over the next few days as the monsoon weakens across the state. The change in weather conditions could push temperatures up by as much as 4 degrees Celsius in several parts of the state, with the plains expected to experience increased humidity and heat.
According to the weather outlook, largely clear skies are expected across Himachal between August 25 and 28. While the rise in daytime temperatures is likely to be noticeable, there may not be much variation in minimum temperatures during the night.
The warmer conditions are expected to be felt not only in the lower districts but also across the hill areas, where sunshine following the recent rain could result in a noticeable increase in daytime temperatures.
Light Rain May Return on August 29-30
The dry spell is not expected to continue indefinitely. Weather officials have indicated the possibility of light to moderate rainfall in some parts of Himachal Pradesh on August 29 and 30.
However, there is currently no forecast of heavy rainfall requiring a warning for any district. The expected showers are likely to be scattered rather than widespread.
Residents and travellers can therefore expect relatively stable weather during the next several days, although conditions may change towards the end of the week.
Temperatures Cross 30°C in 12 Cities
The impact of the recent sunny spell is already visible in the state’s temperature readings. At least 12 cities recorded maximum temperatures above 30°C after a day of clear weather.
Several locations have experienced an increase of around 3 to 5 degrees Celsius compared with previous readings. Una remained among the warmer parts of the state, with the mercury climbing above 35°C.
The temperature increase is particularly significant in the lower and plain areas, where higher humidity can make the weather feel considerably warmer than the actual reading.
Himachal Records Below-Normal Rainfall
The weakening monsoon has also been reflected in the state’s rainfall figures. Himachal Pradesh received 51.9 mm of rain between August 17 and 24, compared with the normal rainfall of 59.2 mm for the same period.
This represents a 14% rainfall deficit over the week.
The broader monsoon figures also indicate below-normal precipitation. Rainfall during the monsoon season so far is around 8% below normal, while August has recorded an estimated 11% deficit.
Humid Conditions to Persist in Plains
The combination of sunshine, higher temperatures and moisture in the atmosphere could make conditions uncomfortable in the plains over the coming days.
People in lower-altitude areas may experience hotter afternoons, while the hills are likely to see clearer skies and warmer daytime conditions. Night temperatures, however, are expected to remain comparatively stable.
For now, the weather pattern points towards a brief break from widespread monsoon activity, with the possibility of rain returning around August 29-30. Residents should continue to monitor local weather updates as conditions can change quickly, particularly in the hill districts.
