Meerut (Uttar Pradesh): A woman has been arrested and her daughter booked in Meerut for allegedly spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and residing in India without valid citizenship documents, police officials said.

The action followed a complaint submitted by Ruksana, a resident of the Delhi Gate police station area, to the Senior Superintendent of Police and the Additional Superintendent of Police (City). In her complaint, she alleged that Saba Farhat, who resides in Nadir Ali Building in the Jali Kothi locality, had travelled to Pakistan in 1988 and married a Pakistani national, Farhat Masood.

According to the complaint, Saba’s daughter, Aiman Farhat, was born in Pakistan in 1993 and later brought to India on a Pakistani passport. She was reportedly enrolled in a school in India but was never granted Indian citizenship.

The complainant further alleged that Saba Farhat prepared forged documents to secure an Indian passport for her daughter and obtained two separate identity documents in her own name. It was also claimed that both women were involved in espionage activities and were allegedly collecting sensitive information for Pakistan’s ISI.

Acting on the complaint, the police initiated an inquiry. Senior Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey said that a probe conducted by the Additional Superintendent of Police (City) led to the recovery of forged documents from their possession.

Following the investigation, an FIR was registered on Saturday at the Delhi Gate police station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Saba Farhat was arrested on Monday and is scheduled to be produced before a court on Tuesday. Further investigation into the allegations is underway.
