New Delhi: Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is set to arrive in India on Tuesday evening to participate in the AI Impact Summit 2026, according to a statement issued by the Sri Lankan High Commission.
Described as the first international AI summit of its kind to be hosted in the Global South, the Global AI Impact Summit aims to deliberate on the transformative role of artificial intelligence in governance, innovation, and sustainable development. The summit, which began on Monday in New Delhi, will run from February 16 to 20 and is expected to welcome leaders and representatives from over 20 countries.
The High Commission stated that Sri Lanka’s participation reflects the depth and priority of the India-Sri Lanka partnership, as well as a shared commitment to ensuring that technological innovation remains inclusive, responsible, and people-centred at a time when emerging technologies are reshaping economies and societies.
The visit builds on President Dissanayake’s landmark State Visit to India in December 2024 and the joint vision document titled “Fostering Partnerships for a Shared Future.” Since then, both countries have sustained cooperation across multiple sectors, including connectivity, economic engagement, digital collaboration, capacity building, and people-to-people ties.
As one of the key South Asian leaders attending the summit, Dissanayake’s presence underscores the closeness of bilateral ties and the commitment of both nations to jointly address future-oriented challenges driven by rapid technological change.
The AI Impact Summit seeks to position New Delhi as a leading voice in shaping an AI ecosystem that is sovereign, inclusive, responsible, and globally impactful, highlighting India’s broader ambition to play a central role in defining the future of artificial intelligence governance.
