New Delhi: In a significant relief to actor Rajpal Yadav, the Delhi High Court on Monday suspended his sentence in cheque bounce cases until March 18 and ordered his release from jail.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma granted interim suspension of the sentence after being informed that Yadav had deposited ₹1.5 crore in the bank account of the complainant, Murali Projects Pvt Ltd.

“We are granting you an interim suspension of sentence… It is till the next date of hearing,” the judge observed while passing the order.

Yadav had sought temporary suspension of his sentence citing a family wedding scheduled for February 19. Taking note of the circumstances and the deposit made, the court allowed interim relief.

However, the court directed the actor to surrender his passport and restrained him from leaving the country without prior permission.

The matter is slated for further hearing on March 18.
