Ludhiana: A 50-year-old police official lost his life in a tragic hit-and-run incident in Ludhiana early Friday morning, triggering a manhunt for the unidentified truck driver responsible for the fatal crash.

The victim, identified as Tarsem Singh, was posted at the Ludhiana court complex where he was assigned security duty with a judge. According to police, he had stepped out for his routine morning walk around 5:30 am when the accident occurred near a girls’ college in the city.

Eyewitnesses said a truck, allegedly being driven at high speed, rammed into Singh and sped away without stopping. The impact was devastating. Bystanders reported that he sustained severe head injuries and fractures to both legs. He remained on the road for several minutes before help arrived, they added.

Police teams reached the spot soon after being alerted and shifted the body for post-mortem examination. A case has been registered against the unknown driver under relevant sections of law.

Officials from Police Division 8 said CCTV cameras installed in the area are being scanned to trace the vehicle. Traffic personnel at key checkpoints across Ludhiana have also been notified to intercept the truck if spotted.

Authorities have appealed to the public to share any information that may assist in identifying the vehicle involved. The investigation is ongoing.
