Chandigarh: Renowned Punjabi and Bollywood playback singer B Praak has reportedly come under threat after an extortion demand was allegedly made in his name, leading police in Mohali to register a case and begin investigations. The incident has raised concerns within the music fraternity, given the seriousness of the warning conveyed to those close to the artist.
Sources said the threat was not sent directly to the singer but to one of his associates, Dilnoor, who received a phone call and a recorded voice message from an overseas number on January 6. The caller allegedly demanded ₹10 crore and claimed links to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. The message reportedly issued a one-week deadline and included a warning of grave consequences if the demand was ignored.
Shaken by the communication, Dilnoor approached the Mohali police the same day and submitted a formal complaint to the Senior Superintendent of Police. Following this, law enforcement agencies launched a probe to identify the caller and verify the claims made in the message. Officials said technical teams are working to trace the origin of the foreign number and conduct forensic analysis of the audio recording.
B Praak, whose real name is Prateik Bachan, is among the most recognised voices in contemporary Indian music, known for chart-topping songs such as Teri Mitti and Ranjha. Police have not yet confirmed the motive behind the alleged threat but stated that the matter is being handled with priority. Authorities added that all necessary measures are being taken to collect evidence and ensure the safety of those connected to the case.
