Greater Noida; Action has been taken against all officials and employees posted at the Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in the Pi-1 area of Aichhar village in connection with an alleged fraud involving crores of rupees withdrawn from customers’ accounts.
Rajesh Bhaumik, the bank’s Delhi-NCR zonal manager, said the entire key staff at the branch had been suspended, while some employees had been transferred. The action comes as the case faces scrutiny from investigating agencies.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has also initiated an inquiry into the matter. The agency has sought information from the bank’s regional office regarding accounts and transactions at the branch over the past two years, along with details of employees posted there during the period.
Meanwhile, Beta-2 police station has written to the authorities seeking the transfer of the investigation to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW). The move could lead to a specialised probe into the alleged financial irregularities.
The alleged fraud involves crores of rupees taken from customers’ accounts. Further details about the suspected transactions, the number of affected customers and the amount involved have not been specified in the information available.
The CBI’s inquiry and the proposed transfer of the police investigation are expected to help establish how the alleged fraud was carried out and whether bank employees were involved.
