Unidentified assailants opened fire outside a gym in outer Delhi’s Paschim Vihar area, triggering panic among residents, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday, but no injuries were reported.
According to the police, the firing occurred near R K Gym. Soon after receiving information, multiple police teams rushed to the spot and cordoned off the area. Forensic experts were also called in to collect evidence from the scene.
A live cartridge was recovered during the inspection, and a case has been registered. Senior police officials said several teams have been formed to identify and trace the attackers.
Meanwhile, a social media post purportedly linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the firing. The post alleged that the gym was targeted after a call made to its owner by the gang went unanswered. Police, however, said the authenticity of the post is being verified.
“We are aware of the social media post and are looking into it. At this stage, it would be premature to comment on the involvement of any gang,” a senior officer said, adding that all possible angles are being examined.
Police are also scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas to reconstruct the sequence of events and identify the escape route used by the assailants. Further investigation into the matter is underway.
