Bengaluru: Six faculty members of a dental college in Bengaluru have been suspended by the management pending further inquiry into the suicide of a 23-year-old student.

In an official communication dated January 12, The Oxford Dental College stated that an internal inquiry into the incident is underway and that the suspension of the faculty members will remain in force until further notice.

Those suspended include senior lecturers Anmol Razdan, Shabana Banu, Faika Kolkar and Alba Dinesh, Reader Sindhu R, and Professor Sushmini Hegde, all from the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology.

The action follows the death of Yashaswini, a third-year dental student, who was found hanging at her residence on Friday. Her family has accused the college management of harassment, alleging that she was subjected to humiliation, which pushed her to take the extreme step.

According to the police, Yashaswini was the only child of her parents, Parimala and Bhudevaiah. Her mother stated that Yashaswini had taken leave on Wednesday citing eye pain. When she returned to college the next day, she was allegedly humiliated in front of fellow students for not participating in a seminar.

After Yashaswini’s death, distressed students staged a sit-in protest outside the morgue, demanding strict action against those responsible. The police have registered a case in connection with the incident, and further investigation is ongoing.
