Chandigarh: The Punjab Government has partnered with United India Insurance Company to implement its flagship healthcare initiative, the Mukh Mantri Sehat Bima Yojana, offering cashless medical insurance coverage of up to ₹10 lakh per family annually.
Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh announced on Friday that the scheme will be formally launched on January 15 by Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal along with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann. He said the programme is aimed at ensuring universal healthcare access and shielding families from the burden of high medical costs.
Addressing a press conference, the Health Minister said the insurer selection process has been completed and the government is in the final phase of empanelling both government and private hospitals across the state to provide cashless treatment under the scheme. He added that the administration plans to complete enrolment of all eligible beneficiaries within three to four months of the launch.
To achieve this target, the government will organise nearly 9,000 enrolment camps across Punjab, making it easier for residents to register under the scheme. Dr. Balbir Singh said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that no citizen is deprived of medical treatment due to financial hardship.
“The focus of this scheme is to make quality healthcare accessible to every family in Punjab,” he said, noting that it would significantly strengthen the state’s public health system.
Eligibility criteria under the scheme have been kept simple to maximise participation. Applicants must be residents of Punjab and possess valid Aadhaar and Voter ID cards to enrol.
