Hyderabad: Hyderabad-bound operations were disrupted on Friday as two IndiGo flights were diverted to Gannavaram Airport near Vijayawada after adverse weather conditions prevented safe landing in the Telangana capital.

Airport officials said the flights, which were operating from Delhi and Mumbai, encountered heavy fog over Hyderabad, forcing pilots to divert as a precautionary measure. The aircraft were unable to remain airborne for extended periods due to weather-related constraints.

“Because of bad weather conditions in Hyderabad, the flights could not wait mid-air and were diverted to Gannavaram,” Vijayawada Airport Director Lakshmikanth Reddy told PTI.

Each of the diverted flights was carrying close to 200 passengers, all of whom landed safely at Gannavaram Airport, officials confirmed. Necessary ground arrangements were made to accommodate the aircraft and passengers.

Authorities said the flights would proceed to Hyderabad once weather conditions improved and requisite clearances were obtained. No injuries or technical issues were reported during the diversion.

Weather-related disruptions have affected flight operations at several airports during the winter season, with fog continuing to impact visibility across parts of north and central India.
