Gandhinagar/New Delhi: Panic spread across parts of Gujarat on Wednesday after eight schools, including seven well-known institutions in Ahmedabad and one in Kalol, received bomb threat emails, prompting an immediate security alert and large-scale evacuation.
According to officials, the threatening emails warned of explosions scheduled around 1:30 pm. Soon after the alerts were received, police, bomb disposal units and district administration teams were rushed to the affected locations to assess the situation and prevent any potential danger.
The police control room was placed on high alert following the threats. As a precaution, students and staff members from all targeted schools were evacuated and sent home safely. Fire brigade teams were deployed outside school campuses to strengthen emergency preparedness and provide immediate assistance if required.
Local police units, supported by dog squads and Special Operations Group teams, carried out intensive search operations inside and around the school premises. The cyber crime branch has initiated an investigation to trace the source of the emails and identify those responsible for creating panic.
At Zydus School in the Vejalpur area of Ahmedabad, authorities deployed four fire tenders, a rescue vehicle and an ambulance outside the campus. Movement of the general public was restricted within a 50-metre radius as an added safety measure while security checks were underway.
The schools that received the bomb threat emails included Zebar School, Zydus School, Maharaja Agrasen School, CBSE Divine Child School, Nirman School, James & Genesis School, DAV International School, and Aavishkar School in Kalol.
Officials have said that investigations are ongoing and assured parents and citizens that all necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of students and staff. No suspicious objects were reported till the last update, and authorities continue to remain on alert as the probe progresses.
