Mumbai: A devastating road accident claimed at least four lives early Monday morning after a series of collisions involving around 20 vehicles on the Mumbai–Delhi Expressway. Officials said poor visibility caused by heavy smog was a key factor behind the crash.
The incident took place around 5 am when thick layers of smog enveloped the expressway, making it difficult for motorists to judge distances. Rescue operations began immediately after the collision was reported. Teams from the police, fire department and emergency medical services reached the site to extract people trapped inside damaged vehicles and shift the injured to nearby hospitals. Some of the vehicles were left badly mangled due to the force of the impact.
The accident led to major traffic disruptions on the expressway, with movement remaining affected for several hours. Officials worked to remove the wreckage and restore normal flow of vehicles.
