US Says a Key Nation Won’t Be Invited to G20 2026, Trump Cites Human Rights Concerns

Washington DC: US President Donald Trump on Friday announced that one of the G20 member nations will not receive an invitation to the 2026 G20 Summit, which the United States will host in Miami. The announcement came in the wake of America’s absence from the recently concluded G20 Summit in Johannesburg.

In a detailed post on X, Trump accused the South African government of failing to acknowledge what he described as human rights violations against certain settler communities. Without naming the country in his initial remarks, he later referred to South Africa while alleging that “Afrikaners, and other descendants of Dutch, French, and German settlers” were facing abuses. He claimed, “They are killing white people, and randomly allowing their farms to be taken from them.”

The Johannesburg G20 Summit, held last weekend, saw participation from several world leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The United States, however, chose not to send a delegation. Trump also claimed that South Africa refused to hand over the G20 presidency to an American Embassy representative who attended the closing ceremony. According to him, this prompted his decision to block the country from being invited to next year’s summit.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa called the move “regrettable” and said his government had consistently worked to strengthen ties with Washington. In a statement, South Africa’s Presidency clarified reports about the G20 gavel handover, noting that since the US delegation was absent from the summit, the ceremonial instruments were formally handed over to a US Embassy official at the headquarters of the country’s foreign affairs department.

Trump has repeatedly made claims about violence against the white minority in South Africa, including allegations of a genocide against white farmers — assertions previously rejected by the South African government and white community leaders.
