New Delhi: The Union Cabinet has officially declared the Red Fort car explosion a terrorist attack, directing security agencies to expedite the investigation and ensure those responsible are brought to justice.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Cabinet has instructed investigators to pursue the case with “utmost urgency and professionalism” to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, their collaborators, and their sponsors.

“The Cabinet unequivocally condemns this dastardly and cowardly act that has led to the loss of innocent lives,” Vaishnaw said. “It reaffirms India’s unwavering commitment to a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.”

He added that the Cabinet expressed gratitude for the statements of solidarity and support received from several governments around the world following the tragedy.

Before chairing a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan (LNJP) Hospital in Delhi to meet those injured in the Red Fort car blast. The Prime Minister, who had just returned from a two-day visit to Bhutan, went directly to the hospital, where he interacted with the victims, enquired about their condition, and wished them a speedy recovery. Senior doctors and officials briefed him on the ongoing treatment and health status of the injured.

The Red Fort car blast occurred on Monday evening when a white Hyundai i20 exploded near the Red Fort metro station, killing at least ten people and injuring dozens. Investigations so far indicate a terror link, with multiple agencies now tracking the suspect’s network across several states.
