Islamabad— A powerful explosion ripped through the entrance of a court complex in the G-11 area of Pakistan’s capital on Tuesday, killing at least 12 people and injuring 20 others, according to officials.
State-run Pakistan Television (PTV) reported that rescue teams recovered 12 bodies from the blast site. “The bodies of 12 individuals killed in the blast have been transferred to PIMS (Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences) Hospital,” PTV said in a post on X, adding that 20 injured victims were taken to the hospital’s emergency department.
Authorities later confirmed that the attack was a suicide bombing. “The suicide bomber’s head was found lying on the road,” PTV reported, citing initial forensic findings from the scene.
No group has claimed responsibility for the deadly explosion so far. However, the attack comes just days after the third round of talks between Pakistan and the Afghan Taliban ended without an agreement on countering cross-border terrorism.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, who visited the blast site, condemned the attack and vowed swift justice. “Those behind this cowardly act will be brought to justice. The government stands with the victims’ families,” he said while addressing the media.
Security has been tightened across Islamabad and nearby regions as investigators comb through CCTV footage and forensic evidence to identify possible accomplices.
