BREAKING NEWS: High Court Stays Land Pooling Scheme in Punjab

Chandigarh — The Punjab and Haryana High Court has stayed the implementation of the Punjab Government’s Land Pooling Policy in a specific case, halting acquisition of 250 acres of land belonging to 102 petitioners until further orders.

The Land Pooling Policy, introduced as a voluntary alternative to forced acquisition, allows landowners to contribute land for development and receive a portion back as developed plots. Popularized through projects like GMADA’s Aerotropolis near Chandigarh, the policy has been promoted for urban expansion with promises of better compensation and no displacement.

However, the recent legal challenge, filed by affected landowners, questioned the fairness and consent process. Advocate Charanjpal Singh Bagri, representing the petitioners, clarified that the stay applies only to the land involved in this case and does not impact a separate ongoing petition.
