Bengaluru: Bengaluru Police have taken custody of 30-year-old Rene Joshilda, the woman accused of sending a series of fake bomb threat emails to schools and institutions across several Indian states.
Joshilda, a former MNC software engineer, was initially arrested in June from Chennai for issuing bomb threats through email. She has now been brought to Bengaluru on a body warrant after police uncovered her involvement in multiple threat cases in the city’s Kalasi Palya area.
According to reports from PTI and News18, Joshilda used virtual private networks (VPNs) and forged WhatsApp accounts to conceal her identity while sending hoax emails. She also used virtual mobile numbers generated through an app called “Gate Code” to create multiple fake accounts.
Police revealed that Joshilda’s motive stemmed from a personal grudge. As reported by India Today, she had developed feelings for a colleague who later married someone else. In an act of revenge, she sent the threatening emails using his identity and credentials to frame him.
Investigations show that Joshilda sent bomb threat emails to several locations, including schools and public venues in Chennai, Hyderabad, and Gujarat. Earlier, she had also been arrested for emailing threats to the Gujarat High Court and the Rajkot District Court, warning that multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) had been planted.
Ahmedabad police confirmed that the threats prompted a full-scale search operation at the Gujarat High Court premises, though no explosives were found. She had also targeted prominent sites such as the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
In several emails, Joshilda allegedly wrote that she would “blow up your schools like the Gujarat plane crash,” escalating panic and forcing authorities to carry out extensive security checks.
Police are now analyzing her devices to trace the full extent of her digital trail and possible accomplices.
