Chandigarh– A political row has erupted in Punjab following the filing of an FIR over an allegedly edited video involving senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition, Partap Singh Bajwa. The video, which criticized the Punjab Vigilance Bureau’s conduct, was allegedly altered and circulated by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s official social media accounts, prompting legal action and a police investigation.

According to the FIR filed on July 11 at Chandigarh’s Sector-3 police station, Bajwa had posted a video on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on June 25, 2025, at 3:13 PM, condemning the Vigilance Bureau’s treatment of Bikram Singh Majithia’s wife and MLA Ganieve Kaur. He claimed the Bureau officers entered their home and reached the bedroom in an insensitive and unlawful manner, which he called “misuse of authority.”

However, Bajwa later alleged that his 3-minute-48-second video was edited by AAP’s social media team before being shared on platforms like X and Facebook. In the edited version, crucial references such as Ganieve Kaur’s name and position as an MLA were removed, making it appear as if Bajwa was supporting Majithia without context. The video was allegedly disseminated through official AAP media handles, including those run by the state leadership.

Bajwa claimed the edited video damaged his image and misled the public, calling it a “deliberate and baseless attempt” by AAP to malign him. He stated that this act not only defamed him but also misrepresented his political stance, especially on a sensitive issue like Majithia’s arrest.

Following the complaint, FIRs have been lodged against Punjab AAP President Aman Arora and minister Harpal Singh Cheema under sections 336(4), 336, and 61(2) of the Indian Penal Code. Aman Arora has been issued a notice by Chandigarh Police, who have requested details of his entire media team responsible for handling AAP Punjab’s social media accounts.

Police are currently investigating who within the AAP’s digital team uploaded the video and edited it before posting. The inquiry also aims to uncover how and where the alleged tampering occurred.

The issue has escalated tensions between the ruling AAP and opposition Congress, with Bajwa demanding accountability for the misuse of digital platforms in spreading misinformation.
