London: British Member of Parliament Preet Kaur Gill has strongly denounced a disturbing racist and sexual attack on a Sikh woman in Oldbury, a town in the Sandwell area of the West Midlands, UK. The incident is currently under investigation by West Midlands Police, who have confirmed it is being treated as a racially aggravated assault.
Gill, who represents Birmingham Edgbaston and is the first female Sikh MP in the UK, expressed her outrage on social media, describing the attack as both “shocking” and “deeply distressing.”
“I am horrified by the racially aggravated sexual assault of a Sikh woman in Oldbury,” Gill posted. “This kind of hatred has no place in our society. My thoughts are with the victim and her family, and I urge anyone with information to come forward.”
Police Appeal for Witnesses
The assault was reported to authorities earlier this week, and police issued a public appeal on Friday for any witnesses or individuals with information to assist in the investigation. While details of the attack remain limited due to the sensitivity of the case, police have emphasized that it is being taken very seriously.
A spokesperson for West Midlands Police stated: “We are investigating this as a racially aggravated sexual assault. Inquiries are ongoing, and we are keen to speak with anyone who may have seen anything suspicious in the area around the time of the incident.”
