Canberra: Two people were killed after a twin-engine aircraft crashed into a hangar while attempting to land at Parafield Airport in Adelaide, triggering a massive fire and leaving several others injured, according to local media reports.

Authorities said the pilot and a passenger on board the Diamond DA42 aircraft died in the crash. At least 11 others were taken to hospital with injuries, including one person in life-threatening condition and two others seriously hurt.

Police said the aircraft crashed into Hangar 54 shortly after take-off, causing extensive fire damage and injuries.

Chief Inspector Andrew McCracken said the collision led to significant destruction, with emergency services rushing to the scene and the immediate area being evacuated.

Officials said six people suffered smoke inhalation, while another person sustained minor injuries.

Thick black smoke billowed from the hangar and spread across surrounding areas, prompting the Metropolitan Fire Service to advise nearby residents to remain indoors as a precaution.

Emergency crews launched a large-scale response to contain the blaze and assist those affected.

The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has opened an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the crash.
